LUUMS
Leeds University Music Society
The Leeds University Union Music Society was founded in 1926 and has been running for over 80 years. Here is some information on what you can expect from one of the biggest university societies found in England!
LUUMS endeavours to involve all of its 600 members, many of whom contribute to the 8 ensembles, in it’s numerous activities that run throughout the year.
There are 8 ensembles within LUUMS, all of which perform 2 or more concerts throughout the year. There are 4 auditioned ensembles including a Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Choir and Symphonic Wind Orchestra. There are also 4 non-audition ensembles: Sinfonia Orchestra, LUUMS choir, Wind Band and Brass Band, which welcome musicians of all standards. Rehearsals for each ensemble take place once a week often followed by a well deserved drink.
As well as enjoying the rehearsals and concerts, our members can enjoy our exciting new social calendar, starting with the Freshers’ Party on 29th September, the infamous Otley Run and the LUUMS Ball.
A highlight of the year is the annual Charity Concert, this year being held on the 6th March, at the prestigious Leeds Town Hall.
